Presidio Border Seizure Finds Cocaine Hidden in Cheese

In July 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Presidio Port of Entry in Texas stopped a pickup truck and found an unusual concealment: cocaine packed inside four wheels of cheese.

The discovery happened during what began as a routine border inspection. According to CBP, officers referred the vehicle for a secondary examination after it arrived at the port from Mexico. Officers used non-intrusive inspection equipment and continued the search.

Inside the vehicle, they found four large cheese wheels that were not just food. Hidden within them were nearly 18 pounds of alleged cocaine.

Cocaine Hidden in Cheese

The driver, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. CBP also seized the pickup truck and the narcotics.

What stands out in cases like this is not just the drug load, but the method. Border officers regularly inspect vehicles carrying ordinary personal items, groceries, and commercial goods. That makes concealment in a familiar food product notable because it blends into what looks routine. Presidio is a smaller West Texas port across from Ojinaga, Chihuahua, but seizures there still reflect the same pattern seen at larger crossings: traffickers using everyday cargo to hide very specific concealment methods. In this case, the detail was precise and concrete. Four wheels of cheese contained nearly 18 pounds of cocaine, and a standard inspection at the port uncovered it.
