Nothing remarkable. But under a comparison microscope, the sealed edges can begin to separate one batch from another. One group may show a repeating ridge pattern and a small distortion at the same point along the seam. Another group may not. That difference can matter.

The misconception is that factory-made packaging is too uniform to reveal anything useful. In practice, the uniformity is exactly why small defects stand out. When the material is generic, the machine’s wear pattern can become more noticeable, especially if the same sealer was used again and again to prepare separate packages.

How Seam Evidence Is Used

Courts and investigators do not rely on this kind of evidence in isolation when stronger links are needed. They may pair it with fingerprints, DNA, chemical analysis, phone records, or location data. But the seam itself can still help narrow a network, connect seizures that initially seemed unrelated, or support the claim that multiple packages moved through the same packaging point.

The concrete implication is narrow but important: a nearly invisible line of melted plastic can turn a stack of ordinary-looking bags into evidence of a shared source, because the same sealing machine may leave the same microscopic signature across separate packages.
